Sidorova’s record, Lasitskene’s nerves: what to expect from the Czech Republic in athletics

This week, the best athletes of the country will gather in Cheboksary, who will compete for the title of champions of Russia, and will also receive tickets to the final of the Queen of Sports series. In the absence of international starts, Maria Lasitskene, Anzhelika Sidorova, Sergey Shubenkov and others have no choice but to demonstrate their best form within the country. MK-Sport will talk about the main intrigues of the Chechen Republic in Cheboksary.

The main start for athletes is behind us, and this is not the Russian championship or even the Spartakiad, the World Championship was held last month in the American Eugene, and the Russian team was not invited to it – like in most sports, our athletes are banned from the international arena.

For Russian athletes, the topic of the ban has been familiar since 2015, but this season everything is different – the All-Russian Federation of Athletics decided to organize a decent competitive practice for athletes under the conditions of suspension.

It turned out or not, it will become known by the results of the final of the series “Queen of Sports” – one of the two main starts of the year for Russian athletes. By the way, the tournament will not only allow athletes to keep themselves in good shape until Russia is allowed to take part in the largest competitions under the auspices of World Athletics, but also make good money – the best athlete or athlete in the ranking will receive 500 thousand rubles, those who take second places – 300 thousand, the third – 200 thousand.

A prerequisite for getting into the finals of the Queens of Sports series is participation in the Russian Championship. It started on August 2 in Cheboksary, and right now the best athletes of the country have gathered in the capital of Chuvashia. And one of them has already managed to break the record of 22 years ago: in walking 10 thousand meters , Vasily Mizinov showed the result of 38 minutes 14.24 seconds – this is almost 30 seconds faster than the result of Viktor Buraev from May 20, 2000.

Initially, the Russian championship was supposed to be held in June, but the same VFLA decided to make changes to the calendar in order to extend the Russian summer competitive season. And it’s definitely not without reason, because in Cheboksary they are waiting for the best form from Maria Lasitskene , Anzhelika Sidorova , Sergey Shubenkov and Ilya Ivanyuk .

First of all, the silver medalist of Tokyo 2020 Sidorova is expected to consolidate the status of a world leader. In mid-July, at the Moscow Championships, the athlete showed the best result of the season, pole vaulting by 4.86. In the same days, the American Cathy Nageotte jumped 4.85 and became the world champion.

Maria Lasitskene has not yet demonstrated her best result this season, and at the Path to Olympus tournament, the Olympic champion even burst into tears before the decisive attempt, explaining her hysteria by the fact that she was worried about the situation in the world. Lasitskene’s rivals in the Cheboksary sector for high jumps will be Maria Kochanova (the current champion of Russia), Natalia Spiridonova (world junior champion) and her own nerves.

Sergey Shubenkov is also not in the best shape , who has just come to his senses after an injury that did not allow him to take part in the 2020 Olympics. The best Russian hurdler from start to start showed ever better results, and by and large Shubenkov will not have strong competition in Cheboksary – Sergey will have to compete for the gold of the national championship with 17-year-old Nikita Velikotsky .

The fight is also expected at a distance of 400 m for women. There, one of the country’s most promising athletes, Polina Miller , will compete with Antonina Krivoshapko , a multiple winner of world championships .

But in the high jump sector, a duel will not happen for men – Mikhail Akimenko , who misses the summer season due to injury, will not be able to compete with Ilya Ivanyuk . The best high jumper in Russia planned to jump 2.40 this year, and the fight against Akimenko could allow him to overcome this bar. But not fate.
