From love to hate: foreigners playing in Russia are expelled from national teams

Russian sports are banned from the international arena indefinitely. Not only domestic athletes suffer from sanctions, but also legionnaires playing in Russia. At home, athletes are required to terminate contracts with Russian clubs, and even kicked out of national teams. MK-Sport will tell you who has already suffered, and who is just waiting.

In the international arena, they do not want to see not only players from Russia, but also foreign players representing Russian clubs. Federations of countries require their players to leave Russia and never appear there again. The relay was started by the Polish Football Federation, which refused to call Spartak defender Maciej Rybus to the national team .

“In connection with the current club situation”

The head coach of the Polish national football team, Czesław Mikhniewicz , had a conversation with Maciej Rybus this summer, saying that he would not be called up to the team for the autumn training camp and would not play at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The reason is: “due to the current club situation”. Rybus, who lived in Russia for 10 years and created a family here with a Russian girl, signed a contract with Spartak during the off-season, moving from Lokomotiv. The 32-year-old footballer played 66 matches for the Polish national team – he played at Euro 2012, World Cup 2018 and Euro 2020, and also participated in the selection for the 2022 World Cup.

In Russia, they were outraged by the decision of the Polish federation and even offered Rybus Russian citizenship. There is a possibility that the same fate awaits the best volleyball player in Poland. At the end of September, the Women’s Volleyball World Championship will be held in the Netherlands and Poland. Many teams have already published preliminary lineups, and what a surprise it was when the name of one of the best volleyball players in the country, Malvina Smarzek, was not on the list of the Polish team (host of the tournament).

The volleyball player started last season as part of Lokomotiv Kaliningrad, but like many foreign players, she left Russia due to the political situation. However, Smarzhek herself admitted that she did not leave Loko of her own free will. What made the Polish fans and the local federation very angry.

Smarzek spent the end of the season at the Polish Developers, and at one of the matches, the fans brought the athlete to tears by hanging the banner .The Swedes were against the transfer of Jonas Jerebko to CSKA

They hated legionnaires playing (or playing) in Russia, not only in Poland. Jonas Jerebko, the best basketball player in the history of Sweden, received his portion of criticism. The 35-year-old striker decided to resume his career in CSKA Moscow, which was opposed in his homeland.

Sponsors refused to cooperate with Yerebko, and journalists criticized for moving to Russia: “He does not follow the news and is not ashamed of his act? Does he have no advisors to stop him? Does he really need money? Or is he deceived? – wrote Anders Lindblad from SvD.

The general secretary of the Swedish Basketball Federation, Fredrik Yulamo , said that Jerebko “picked an amazing time for such a transition.” And at the end of March, the leadership of the federation officially banned the striker from representing the national team due to the transfer to CSKA.

At the end of the season, CSKA parted ways with their Swedish player.

In France, refused the players who signed contracts in Russia

The Basketball Federation of France went further than the Swedish organization and decided to play ahead of the curve. If the Swedes removed Yerebko after he signed a contract with CSKA, the French only plan to refuse players who have agreed with Russian clubs.

The French Basketball Federation came up with a rule according to which players and coaches who signed a contract in Russia or Belarus will not be able to represent the French team.

Euro Basket kicks off in September, and already now the French are holding training camps where there is not a single player who has collaborated with Russian clubs. Neither CSKA forward Livio Jean-Charles , nor UNICS striker Louis Labeyrie are present at the training camp .
